    Fort Detrick is located in Frederick, Maryland. It is home to the U.S. Medical Research and Materiel Command and the Army Medical Research Institute of Infectious Diseases. Fort Detrick supports the research and development of medical materials and foreign plant pathogens. It annually hosts the Cancer Institute-Frederick and the National Interagency Confederation for Biological Research. \Employees from all the Armed Forces live and work on base. There are 354 military housing units provided at Fort Detrick and a waiting list may be in effect. There is no temporary lodging located on post.

Frederick has a population of over 65,000 and is a city located in a rural area of western Maryland. It is an hour northwest of both Baltimore and Washington D.C.
